William James Moriarty is the villainous and later heroic titular main protagonist of Moriarty the Patriot.
He was voiced by Soma Saito in Japanese and by Aaron Dismuke in the English dub. As a child, he was voiced by Shizuka Ishigami in Japanese and by Emily Neves in the English dub.
What Makes Him a Shonen Rival?[]
- Heroic/Anti-Villainous: Prior to his redemption, William sought to reform and destroy the classism present from the English nobility by killing many corrupt nobles and later redeems himself, and is ultimately a well-intentioned extremist.
- Honorable: William shows respect and empathy to those who were harmed by the classist system whilst also respecting Sherlock for his intelligence and innate nobility.
- Tragic: William was originally a poor orphan who had to survive by his mind before suffering classism by some of the nobility, including his own adopted family, which were factors that made him believe that the corrupt nobles needed to die whilst having a huge guilt complex from the murders.
- Intelligent: William pulls off numerous impressive gambits and plans in order to achieve his idea of a better world.
- Naturally Talented: William was already quite knowledgeable and intelligent as a child.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: William seeks to end the classist system in England by exposing the crimes of its nobility.
- Redemption Arc: Thanks to the encouragement of Sherlock, William is able to stop his self hate and work on a path to atone for his sins.
- Is A Serious Threat: For most of Part 1, William was very successful in killing the corrupt nobles and set London on fire in order to get the peasantry and nobility to set aside their class differences.
