Squidward Tentacles is the tritagonist of the Nickelodeon animated franchise SpongeBob SquarePants. He is voiced by Rodger Bumpass.
What Makes Him a Shonen Rival?[]
- Heroic/Anti-Heroic: In Sponge out of Water, Squidward participated in a battle against Burgerbeard in order to take back the Secret Krabby Patty Formula to save Bikini Bottom.
- Honorable: While Squidward gets easily annoyed with SpongeBob's antics, he does occasionally show how much he cares about him.
- Intelligent: Squidward is frequently shown to have much more emotional maturity, intelligence and common sense than SpongeBob and Patrick combined.
- Naturally Talented: Despite being exceptionally bad at the clarinet, Squidward is a talented artist and an good opera singer.
- Arrogant/Jerkish: Squidward thinks he is a great musician when he is not and he can be a misathropic jerk at times, especially towards SpongeBob.
- Cynical: Squidward is quick to be suspicious of people's ulterior motives.
- Pessimistic: Unlike the optimistic SpongeBob, Squidward has a negatively fatalistic view of life.
- Short-Tempered: Squidward is very well-known for being extremely irritable and hot-tempered, particularly when SpongeBob and Patrick's antics annoy him to his last limit.
- Perpetual Frowner: Squidward rarely smiles around most people and regularly frowns and scowls.
- Is A Dude/Chick Magnet: Has at least done this twice in the same episode "The Two Faces of Squidward":
- Whacking a door against Squidward's face makes him look more good-looking and muscular, the ladies (as well as men) go nuts about him and come to the Krusty Krab very often just for him (much to Krabs' greedy delight), and the more the doors slam into Squidward's face, the more muscular and "handsome" he gets, unless he slammed into a pole would undo the "handsomeness".
- Heck, him getting plastic surgery on his entire face (yet again) makes him look more good-looking and without being muscular this time, and on top of making everyone in town equally go crazy about him, he also attracted a ridiculous number of women everywhere in Bikini Bottom, much to Squidward's delight (even to the point of having several female fish residents obsessing over him to the point of wanting take his bathroom soap or joining a bath with him and have everyone pop in from everywhere in his restroom to stalk and join him out of posessive excitement, much to Squidward's displeasure).
