In addition, he was already very detestable before gaining the symbiote, as shown by how he prayed for Peter's death, something that a Shonen Rival would never do (even those who tried to kill the hero actually did it themselves instead of asking God to do it for them). To throw the cherry on top, it was implied he tried to rape MJ.
