Riku is the deuteragonist of the Kingdom Hearts video game series. He is voiced by Mamoru Miyano in the Japanese version and by David Gallagher in the English version. As a child, he is voiced by Eiji Shima in the Japanese version and by Ty Panitz in the English version.
What Makes Him a Shonen Rival?[]
- Anti-Heroic/Anti-Villainous: Riku sacrificed himself to close the door to the Realm of Darkness after being corrupted by Maleficent.
- Honorable: Despite nearly killing Sora and Kairi via through being possessed by the Seeker of Darkness, he deeply values his friendship with them.
- Intelligent: Riku is shown to be an excellent fighter and manages to keep a leveled head during stressful situations.
- Arrogant/Jerkish: Riku is usually callous and brutal towards those outside of his inner circle.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: During his childhood, Riku dreamed of leaving Destiny Island to see other worlds.
- Redemption Arc: After being possessed by the Seeker of Darkness and manipulated by Maleficent into being turned into the dark side, Riku risks his life to save Sora by closing the door to the Realm of Darkness.
- Is a Serious Threat/Villain: After being corrupted by Maleficent, Riku becomes an enemy to Sora.
- Spiky Hair: Riku's hair becomes spikier in Kingdom Hearts III.
