Meta Knight is the tritagonist of the Kirby franchise.

What Makes Him A Shonen Rival?[]

  • Heroic/Anti-Villainous: Has had many anti-villainous roles initally, but later became fully heroic.
    • Back in Kirby's Adventure, which is right before Super Star, he does give Kirby and Invincibility Candy, but still sends his Meta Knights after you on some occasions before fighting you in Orange Ocean, which implies he was testing you to defeat the Nightmare.
    • In Kirby Super Star, where he tried taking over Dream Land to stop its inhabitants from being lazy, and in Kirby Squeak Squad, where he fought Kirby (and without giving him a sword too!) to keep the Dark Nebula sealed.
    • He becomes a full-on hero by Kirby's Return To Dream Land, and any instance of him fighting Kirby is to test his skills, which is why he chose to fight him in the Colosseum in Forgotten Land.
  • Honorable: One of Meta Knight's most defining traits, best shown when he always gives Kirby a sword during fights with him, unless it's to prevent him from doing something reckless (e.g., Kirby Squeak Squad, where he stopped Kirby from opening the chest to release Dark Nebula) or when he gets possessed (like in Planet Robobot). In Kirby Fighters 2, he doesn't give Kirby a sword, but by then, he has been shown to be incredibly strong already, and this game is non-canon.
  • Tragic (KRBAY Meta Knight only): Had to go through the horrors of war against Nightmare Enterprises and was thought of as the last standing Star Warrior.
  • Intelligent: His intelligence is shown in his charisma, where he convinced crew members that his plans for Dream Land in Kirby Super Star were for the greater good and has shown to have high intelligence in the use of his sword.
  • Naturally Talented: Obviously. Ever since Kirby's Adventure, he has shown great skill in using his sword. Also, you think that after many games with him using the Galaxia that he would lose his skills in sword fighting with his original sword or other swords. Well, in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, that turns out to be false!
  • Pursues A Big-End Goal: Wants to protect Planet Popstar from evil forces. In the anime, he wanted to defeat Nightmare Enterprises.
  • Redemption Arc: Has been redeemed, but not necessarily through an arc. He just feels remorse for what he did in Kirby Super Star, and is long past his days as a villain (game Meta only, in the anime, he was always a hero and never did villainous things aside from sometimes working for Dedede).
  • Perpetual Frowner: We don't see Meta Knight ever smile, though it's because he covers his face with a mask, and every time he is unmasked, he is mostly seen frowning.
  • Is A Blood Knight: He wished to fight the strongest warrior in existence, Galacta Knight and often looks forward to fighting Kirby to test his skills.
  • Is A Mentor: Serves as a bit of a guide for Kirby, especially in the anime.
  • Vengeful: Attacking Kirby after he foils your Dream Land domination plan? Huge vengefulness points there (game only).
  • Wears Blue/Red/Black: Black in some games, blue in some others, in terms of his true appearance.
  • Has A Soft Spot for the Shonen Hero: Has a soft spot for Kirby and often tries to test his skills.
  • Is An Edgelord: He's often shown to be a dark and mysterious figure.
