Malcolm Wilkerson is the titular main protagonist of Malcolm in the Middle. He was portrayed by Frankie Muniz.

What Makes Him a Shonen Rival?[]

  • Anti-Heroic: Despite being an egotistical jerk at times, Malcolm stands up for what's right, such as standing up to Spath for bullying other students.
  • Honorable: While he has his share of amoral moments, Malcolm has his own standards that he wouldn't cross like raping a drunk girl.
  • Intelligent: Malcolm has a high IQ of 165 and has a photographic memory.
  • Naturally Talented: Malcolm is the most book-smart of his brothers, going as far as to graduate from high school as the valedictorian.
  • Arrogant/Jerkish: Malcolm is incredibly conceited and treats almost everyone around him as they are beneath him.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: Malcolm wants to get away from his dysfunctional family.
  • Cynical: Malcolm is often weary of the intentions of those he comes across and believes that they do things for themselves.
  • Pessimistic: Malcolm often view things as a major tragedy.
  • Irritable: Malcolm occasionally gets irritated by his family's shenanigans and gets tired of tolerating people's idiotic behaviors.
  • Persistent: Regardless of the obstacles, Malcolm refuses to back down from a challenge, especially when it comes to competing with his brothers.
  • Short-Tempered: Malcolm is very quick to anger and often lashes out at everyone when provoked.
  • Is a Blood Knight: Though not on the same level as Reese, Malcolm enjoys participating in fights, especially with his brothers.
  • Is a Mentor: Malcolm occasionally tutors his classmates at school.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Malcolm's egotism is a result of his feeling of being a victim of unfairness due to his dysfunctional home life as well as being an outcast amongst his peers due to his high intelligence.
  • Is a Delinquent: Though he doesn't get into legal trouble like Francis and Reese, Malcolm commits his fair share of petty crimes and occasionally gets suspended from school.
  • Is Related to a Shonen Hero: Malcolm is Reese's younger brother.
  • Is a Tsundere: Malcolm often complains about his family life and wishes to get away from them as well as wanting to live a normal life from being an outcast, but he does prove his loyalty to his family and friends on occasions.
