Gerald Jinx Mouse, Sr, better known as Jerry Mouse, or simply Jerry is one of the titular two main protagonists (alongside Tom Cat) of the Tom and Jerry franchise. He is a brown anthropomorphic mouse, who first appeared in the MGM 1940 short, Puss Gets the Boot. He is usually chased by Tom and he usually foils his plans to catch and dispose of him. He is Tom's arch-rival and occasional best friend.
Like Tom, he was voiced by the late William Hanna and has been replaced by various voice actors. He was voiced by the late Dana Hill in Tom and Jerry: The Movie.
What Makes Him A Shonen Rival?[]
- Heroic/Anti-Heroic/Anti-Villainous: He and Tom save a little girl from her greedy aunt and have plenty admirable deeds. While he is never directly villainous, he takes pleasure from his rivalry with Tom.
- Honorable: Shows good attitude towards Tom.
- Intelligent: Jerry is successful provoker and prankster with nobody but Tom ever to realize the essence of his provocations, and has shown to be a lot more resourceful and smarter than Tom.
- Naturally Talented: Both him and Tom are good at sports (for example, in one episode they both showed to be good at golf), but Jerry seems to have a knack and a big talent of mind games and a master of trickery and strategy, as he is able to outsmart and play tricks on a housecat on his own and defeat his enemies and even come out unscathed with his mischief-making.
- Arrogant/Jerkish: Both him and Tom are on&off and take pleasure from tormenting each other. Jerry also has his moments of being smug, cocky and a jerk, especially with getting Tom in trouble and toying with his ego when Tom is rendered powerless.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: His and Tom's goal is to outwit each other, which Jerry always succeed at.
- Cynical: Jerry is always skeptical, especially not trusting Tom or often believing Tom is sometimes pretending to be nice to trick him.
- Short Tempered: While not as often as Tom, Jerry can lose his cool sometimes, especially in episodes like "Saturday Evening Puss" when Jerry got fed up with Tom and his friends playing loud party music at a time when Jerry needed to sleep, and lashed his anger on them as well when Tom and friends didn't care about the fact that they were being party animals, or the episode "he Milky Waif" where he got on his last nerve in seeing Tom swat Nibbles on the butt with a fly swatter since Nibbles was hurt; which got him intimidating Tom with a frightening roar and beats him up like a pro.
- Is a Blood Knight: Takes extreme level of pleasure from fighting Tom and Spike, and does it with mischief.
- Is a Mentor: Jerry is a one to Nibbles.
- Vengeful: Always gets revenge to Tom.
