Hiei is a main character in the anime and manga YuYu Hakusho.
He is voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Chuck Huber, Kirk Thornton and James Stanley in the English version of the anime.
What Makes Him a Shonen Rival?[]
- Anti-Heroic/Anti-Villainous: Hiei started out as an adversary to Yusuke before turning into one of his closest allies.
- Honorable: Though he is merciless towards his enemies, he deeply loves his twin sister Yukina and respects Yusuke as a comrade.
- Tragic: Hiei was born as a fire demon to a ice maiden tribe where women are disallowed to procreate with men or give birth to sons. When the tribe finds out about his heritage, Yukina was taken in by the tribe whereas Hiei was forced out of the tribe by being thrown off a cliff. Afterwards, Hiei was found and raised by a gang of bandits.
- Intelligent: Hiei is an extremely clever combatant and has a strategic mind.
- Arrogant/Jerkish: Hiei believes in the superiority of demons over humans.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Hiei wants to protect his sister Yukina, even if he has to do so from afar without revealing his connection to her.
- Cynical: Hiei has a rather pessimistic view of not only humanity, but demonkind as well due to his harsh upbringing.
- Redemption Arc: After being defeated by Yusuke, Hiei reluctantly fights alongside him to protect the innocent, even if it is only for his own agenda.
- Is a Serious Threat/Villain: Before his redemption, Hiei is a dangerous threat due to his powerful control of the Jagan Eye and the Dragon of the Darkness Flames.
- Short-Tempered: Hiei can get irritated with those around at times, even when they are joking around.
- Spiky Hair: Hiei's hair spikes upwards.
- Unnatural Hair Color: Hiei's hair has white edges.
- Is a Blood Knight: Hiei clearly likes fighting because he was born in a quintessential dog-eat-dog world.
- Vengeful: Hiei wanted vengeance on the ice maidens for killing his mother and abandoning him.
Trivia[]
- Hiei is the icon of the Spoilers template. This is intentional, as his rival Yusuke is the icon of the same template on the Shonen Heroes Wiki.
- In addition, both templates are colored in their main colors, with the Spoilers template here being black while the Shonen Heroes Wiki's Spoilers template is green.
