You're despicable.

Daffy's most famous catchphrase.

Daffy Duck is one of the main characters of the Looney Tunes franchise.

He is Bugs Bunny's best friend and frenemy as well as working partner (as seen in Looney Tunes: Back In Action). Despite this and for all of his insanity and foolishness, their early history had them constantly and violently at odds with each other (though his was primarily one-sided on Daffy's part), and Daffy himself has an extensive history of villainous acts as a rival.

He is the arch-rival and on & off best friend of Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig, the secondary archenemy of Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd, the archenemy of Marvin the Martian and, for a short time, Speedy Gonzales.

What Makes Him A Shonen Rival?[]

  • Anti-Heroic/Anti-Villainous: While he is oftentimes greedy, anti-heroic, envious, and is quite often times an anti-villainous character, he does save the world and the universe several times.
  • Honorable: While he isn't usually honorable, there was a moment in Tiny Toons Looniversity where he told Babs and Plucky that their C- in Anvils 101 was higher than anyone else's grades in that test, even if he didn't need to.
  • Tragic: There are times when Daffy Duck does get treated like dirt even when he didn't do anything wrong and he's a sympathetic character full of insecurities deep down underneath his overinflated ego.
  • Intelligent: Daffy's cleverness manifests in his ability to devise elaborate schemes and outwit opponents, albeit with varying degrees of success, and he is notable for being among the few characters that can actually see through Bugs' disguises.
  • Naturally Talented: Out of universe. Unlike Bugs Bunny, who has been implied to not be naturally talented out of universe in the Season 1 finale of Tiny Toons Looniversity, Daffy was considered one of the best teachers and has not been implied to be shy at "tooning".
  • Arrogant/Jerkish: Come 1948's "You Were Never Duckier” with Chuck Jones in the director's chair for Daffy Duck cartoons, this has become one of, if not his defining character trait. And that's not to mention that he was an arrogant jerk to others at times as his crazier self, and showed some ego in 1940's "You Ought To Be In Pictures", wanting to outdo Porky Pig.
  • Pursues A Big-End Goal: Like all of the ACME Looniversity teachers, he does seem to care for the students and does seem to want them to be good at tooning, especially Plucky Duck, whom he serves as a mentor to.
  • Cynical: Points out Elmer's flaws in Box Office Bunny and distrusts Bugs' tricks. In general, he starts becoming more cynical towards Bugs come 1952's Rabbit Seasoning, when he thinks he finally saw through his trick in that cartoon's last gag.
  • Pessimistic: May overlap with his cynicism, but it works in that he kept thinking bad things would happen every time Bugs Bunny used one of his pronoun trouble tricks in Rabbit Seasoning.
  • Persistent: Even when Daffy's plans usually backfire, he is dedicated with wanting to be the star or earn money.
  • Believes in the Power of Individual Strength: Believes only in his own abilities, whether if it works or backfires on him.
  • Redemption Arc: In Back in Action.
  • Is A Serious Threat: While the Looney Tunes franchise is almost always played for laughs, Daffy was designed to be a more effective archenemy for Speedy Gonzales in the late 60s. The fact he also lampshades Elmer's stupidity in Box Office Bunny shows that he can be a serious threat to Bugs at times, as if he did this with someone like Yosemite Sam, Bugs Bunny would be as good as dead.
  • Irritable/Short-Tempered: "AND I'VE NEVER BEEN SO HUMILIATED IN MY LIFE!"
  • Spiky Hair: Has a spiky tuft of feathers on his head.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: He has to have a superiority complex ever since he was bested by Bugs, especially since he used to be the most undefeatable member before Bugs took over. This starts once Bugs started surpassing him in power as well as outsmarting him countless times and his arrogance led to him being humiliated by everyone, which made him resentful and bitter.
  • Celibate: Was clearly considered the butt of a joke when a pig kissed him back in 1946's The Great Piggy Bank Robbery and didn't seem to lick being kissed directly by female characters despite attracting them every so often.
  • Vengeful: Implied with the New Looney Tunes episode "One Carroter In Search of an Artist", where he imitates Bugs' line, "Ain't I a stinker?" at the end of the episode after doing what Bugs did to him in Duck Amuck, messing with him as an animator.
  • Wears Black: Moreso, he IS black (due to his feathers).
  • Is A Delinquent: 1946's Daffy Doodles has him get into trouble with Porky, a police officer, after drawing mustaches on many people.
  • Calls Out Attacks: "Ha ha! Got the drop on you with *my* disintegrating pistol! And brother, when it disintegrates, it disintegrates."
  • Has Respect for the Shonen Hero: Mellows out towards Bugs in Back in Action and has a good-heart deep down.
  • Is An Chick Magnet: Has had a noticeable history for attracting women when his actions are unintentional and doing things obliviously, this includes a pig, a duck detective, Lola became attracted one time and has a girlfriend named Tina.
